Daniel
Kubert
Daniel Kubert, born and
raised in
Lincoln
,
NE
, has had the unique opportunity to act, dance, sing, direct and
choreograph around the world. After his professional debut during the
1988 Nebraska Repertory season in the hit musical Pippin,
Mr. Kubert left
Lincoln
to work in
Texas
. While residing in
Texas
the elements that shaped Mr. Kubert’s carrier were solidified. He
worked with Tony award winning choreographer Bill T. Jones in 1989 as
well as Sir Peter Hall and Houston Grand Opera. He was cast in Broadway
reproductions and original theatre pieces alike, this gave him a
reverence for the development of contemporary dance forms via
participation in classical forms.
Mr. Kubert next moved to
the
Chicago
area were he became the artistic director of Without Shoes Modern Dance
Collective. While living in
Rockford
Ill.
he was an artist in residence with the Illinois Arts Council and began
teaching children the joys of movement and creative thought, which
quickly became his passion.
It was at this point, in
1991, that he was hired by the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company
and continued to develop his ongoing relationship with Mr. Jones. He was
a principle dancer for this world renowned company for over ten years
and enjoyed the brisk global tour schedule and community outreach
programs that allowed him to teach all levels of classes around the
world.
After leaving the company
in 2002 Mr. Kubert went on to create many original works, the majority
of which are based on text, both original and published, yet un-adapted
for the stage. He returned to
Nebraska
in 2006 to work as a guest artist at the
University
of
Nebraska-Lincoln
were he has created numerous academic, cerebral pieces, as well as
various light hearted family pieces. He facilitated several classes and
workshops reared toward students creating original performance art
through various techniques of body/mind integration. He has directed and
choreographed several shows for the Lincoln Community Playhouse,
performed at Pinewood Bowl and most recently was seen in the critically
acclaimed Metamorphoses at Nebraska Repertory, effectively bringing his
life back to his humble beginnings, full circle.
“The natural step now is
to delve into the worlds of the dance studios that gave me the
foundation from which I cultivated my rewarding carrier. I can’t wait
to bring the vast information I have gained from my travels and
interactions with some of the world’s most talented performers and
teachers to the students and future stars of the stage here in Lincoln,
the town I am honored to call home”
